Kia EV6: Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC) / Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control limitations

Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control in the Kia EV6 may operate abnormally, pause unexpectedly, or provide delayed speed assistance under the following circumstances. Because this system depends on navigation data, GPS positioning, map accuracy, road recognition, and Smart Cruise Control operation, the driver must always monitor the road and remain ready to control speed manually.

  • The navigation system is not operating correctly or cannot provide reliable route information.

  • Speed limit information and road data stored in the navigation system have not been updated.

  • Map information is not transmitted properly because the Kia EV6 infotainment system is operating abnormally.

  • The displayed map information is different from the actual road because of real-time GPS errors, outdated map data, or navigation positioning inaccuracies.

  • The navigation system is searching for or recalculating a route while the vehicle is being driven.

  • GPS signals are blocked or weakened when driving through areas such as tunnels, underpasses, urban canyons, or roads surrounded by large structures.

  • The road divides into two or more lanes or routes and then joins again, making it difficult for the system to determine the correct driving path.

  • The Kia EV6 leaves the route that was set in the navigation system.

  • The route to the destination is changed, canceled, or reset through the navigation system.

  • The vehicle enters a service area, rest area, roadside facility, or a road section that is not recognized as the main highway route.

  • Android Auto or Apple CarPlay is operating and may affect the way navigation-related information is displayed or handled.

  • The navigation system cannot accurately detect the current position of the Kia EV6, for example on elevated roads, overpasses, parallel roads, or roads running very close to each other.

  • The navigation system is being updated while driving.

  • The navigation system is restarting while the Kia EV6 is moving.

  • The speed limit changes dynamically in certain road sections depending on traffic flow, lane control, time of day, roadworks, or temporary restrictions.

  • The vehicle is driving on a road under construction where lane markings, routes, or speed limits may not match the navigation data.

  • The Kia EV6 is driving on a road section controlled by temporary traffic management, police control, road restrictions, or lane closures.

  • Severe weather is present, such as heavy rain, heavy snow, fog, or low visibility conditions.

  • The vehicle is driving on a sharply curved road where navigation-based speed adjustment may not be sufficient for the actual road shape.

  4. Main road

  5. Curved road section

  • When the navigation set route is recognized as a branch line but the actual driving route of the Kia EV6 continues on the main road, Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown may not operate until the system correctly identifies the vehicle as traveling on the main road.

  • When the vehicle’s actual driving route is later recognized as the main road instead of the navigation set route, Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown may begin operating. Depending on the remaining distance to the curve, current vehicle speed, and road curvature, deceleration may be insufficient, or the Kia EV6 may decelerate more rapidly than expected.

  4. Set route

  5. Curved road section

  • When there is a difference between the navigation set route on the main road and the actual driving route on a branch line, Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown may temporarily operate based on curve information for the main road rather than the road the Kia EV6 is actually following.

  • When the system determines that the vehicle is leaving the set route by entering a highway interchange, junction, ramp, service area, or rest area link, Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown will not operate. In these situations, the driver must control the Kia EV6 speed directly and choose a safe speed for the road layout.

  3. Curved road section

  4. Main road

  • If no destination is set in the navigation system, the Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown function in the Kia EV6 operates using the available curve information for the main road. In this situation, the system may assist with speed adjustment based on mapped highway curvature rather than a selected route.

  • Even if the Kia EV6 leaves the main road, Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown may continue to operate temporarily according to navigation information related to the curved section of the highway. Because this operation can vary depending on route recognition and map data, the driver should always check the actual road ahead.

WARNING

  • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control is a convenience and driver assistance function, not a replacement for safe driving habits. Always keep your eyes on the road, monitor traffic conditions, and remember that the driver of the Kia EV6 is fully responsible for obeying traffic laws and avoiding unsafe driving situations.

  • The speed limit information provided by the navigation system may differ from the actual speed limit posted on the road. It is always the driver’s responsibility to confirm the legal speed limit on the current road, lane, ramp, or highway section and to adjust the Kia EV6 speed accordingly.

  • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control may be automatically canceled if the road type changes while driving on the main road of a controlled-access highway, such as when entering a general road, a rest area, a service road, an interchange, a junction, an entrance road, or an exit road (IC/JC). Always pay attention and be ready to take over speed control immediately.

  • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control may not operate correctly because of leading vehicles, surrounding traffic, road layout, weather, sensor conditions, or the driving behavior of the Kia EV6. Always observe road and driving conditions while driving.

  • When towing a trailer or carrying a similar load, vehicle deceleration may not be sufficient. The added weight can change braking distance and vehicle response, so always drive the Kia EV6 with extra caution.

  • After passing through a tollgate on a highway or motorway, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control may operate based on the first lane. If you enter another lane, the system may not recognize the road condition correctly or may not operate as expected.

  • The Kia EV6 will accelerate if the driver presses the accelerator pedal while Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control is operating, and the function will not reduce vehicle speed during that driver input. However, if the accelerator pedal is pressed only slightly or insufficiently, the vehicle may still decelerate depending on the system status.

  • If you press and then release the accelerator pedal while Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control is operating, the Kia EV6 may not decelerate enough, or it may decelerate rapidly toward a safer speed depending on the curve, navigation data, and current driving conditions.

  • If the curve is too large, too small, too gradual, too sharp, or not accurately reflected in the navigation map, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control may not operate or may not provide the expected speed adjustment.

  • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control is a supplemental function and does not replace safe driving. The driver must always check the vehicle speed, traffic flow, distance to the vehicle ahead, road signs, lane position, and surrounding conditions. Always drive the Kia EV6 safely and use proper caution.

NOTE

  • A time difference may occur between navigation guidance and the moment Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control starts or ends operation. The Kia EV6 may respond slightly before or after the driver expects, depending on route data and system processing.

  • The speed information shown on the instrument cluster and the speed information displayed by the navigation system may differ. Always follow the actual road signs and legal speed limits.

  • Even when driving below the Smart Cruise Control set speed, acceleration may be limited if the Kia EV6 detects upcoming curve sections through navigation data.

  • If Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control is operating while the vehicle leaves the main road to enter an interchange, junction, ramp, rest area, or similar road section, the function may continue operating for a short period of time.

  • Deceleration by Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control may feel insufficient on uneven road surfaces, narrow lanes, curved sections, downhill roads, wet pavement, or other demanding conditions. If you feel that deceleration is not enough, press the brake pedal yourself to slow the Kia EV6 safely.

  • For the most predictable operation, keep the navigation system updated and use Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control only on supported roads where the Kia EV6 can correctly recognize the route and road conditions.
