Kia EV6 2022-2026 Owner's Manual / Driver assistance system / Forward/side safety function / Forward/Side/Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist malfunction and limitations / Limitations of Forward/Side/Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist

Forward/Side/Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist in the Kia EV6 may not provide braking intervention even when pedestrians, vehicles, or other obstacles are present near the vehicle under the following conditions:

  • There is a problem with the vehicle:

    • Aftermarket accessories, non-genuine equipment, or modified components have been installed.

    • The braking system has been modified, including brake discs, calipers, or related components.

    • Wheel alignment is incorrect or suspension components have been altered.

    • Accessories have been attached to the steering wheel or steering system components have been modified.

    • The Kia EV6 has become unstable due to accident damage or structural issues.

    • The bumper height or ultrasonic sensor installation position has been changed.

    • The wide-view cameras or ultrasonic sensors have been damaged.

    • Snow chains, temporary spare tires, or wheels with different dimensions are installed.

    • The camera lenses or ultrasonic sensors are covered with snow, dirt, ice, mud, or other contaminants.

  • There is a problem with the surroundings:

    • The cameras are obstructed by direct sunlight, bright reflections, heavy rain, fog, snow, or other adverse weather conditions.

    • The surrounding environment is excessively bright or extremely dark.

    • Ambient temperatures are unusually high or low.

    • Strong winds exceeding approximately 12 mph (20 km/h) are present or are blowing directly across the vehicle.

    • Loud noise sources such as vehicle horns, motorcycles, construction equipment, or truck air brakes are nearby.

    • Objects generating ultrasonic waves are located near the Kia EV6.

    • Wireless electronic equipment is operating close to the ultrasonic sensors.

    • The vehicle is affected by ultrasonic signals from another vehicle's parking assistance system.

    • The road surface is slippery, uneven, or significantly inclined.

  • There is a problem with pedestrians or objects:

    • The pedestrian is difficult for the camera or sensors to recognize.

    • A significant height difference exists between the Kia EV6 and the pedestrian.

    • The pedestrian visually blends into the background.

    • The pedestrian is positioned near the outer edge of the detection area.

    • The pedestrian is not standing upright.

    • The pedestrian is unusually short or unusually tall.

    • The pedestrian is wearing clothing that closely matches the surrounding environment.

    • The pedestrian is wearing materials that reflect ultrasonic waves poorly.

    • The object's size, shape, thickness, or material makes ultrasonic detection difficult, such as poles, bushes, curbs, shopping carts, or wall edges.

    • The pedestrian or object is moving unpredictably.

    • The pedestrian or obstacle is positioned extremely close to the vehicle.

    • A large object such as a wall is located directly behind the pedestrian or obstacle.

    • The object is not located near the center of the vehicle's detection area.

    • The object is positioned at an angle and is not parallel to the bumper.

  • There is a problem with the driving conditions:

    • The driver begins moving immediately after selecting R (Reverse) or D (Drive).

    • The driver accelerates aggressively or performs sharp steering maneuvers.

    • The Kia EV6 is driven immediately after startup before all systems have completed initialization.

WARNING

  • Always exercise extreme caution when driving. The driver remains fully responsible for controlling the vehicle and applying the brakes safely.

  • Always inspect the area around your Kia EV6 before moving the vehicle to ensure that pedestrians, cyclists, animals, and obstacles are not present.

  • The effectiveness of Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist can vary depending on weather, visibility, road conditions, and obstacle characteristics. Continuous driver attention is required.

  • Certain objects may not be detected because of their size, shape, position, distance, or material composition.

  • The system may activate unexpectedly or may not activate when expected depending on environmental conditions.

  • Never rely solely on Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist. Doing so may result in property damage, serious injury, or a collision.

  • The wide-view cameras and ultrasonic sensors are critical recognition devices that allow the Kia EV6 to monitor its surroundings.

  • Keep all cameras and sensors clean and unobstructed at all times.

  • Do not use acidic cleaners, alkaline detergents, or abrasive chemicals on camera lenses. Use only mild soap or neutral cleaning products.

  • Do not spray high-pressure water directly at the cameras, ultrasonic sensors, or surrounding areas.

  • Do not place stickers, guards, trim accessories, or paint near the cameras or sensors.

  • Never disassemble, modify, or strike the cameras or ultrasonic sensor assemblies.

  • Excessive force may alter sensor alignment and reduce the effectiveness of Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist.

  • You may hear mechanical or braking noises when the Kia EV6 performs automatic emergency braking.

  • If another warning tone is already active, the Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist alert may be difficult to hear.

  • The system may not operate correctly if the bumper has been damaged, repaired, or replaced improperly.

  • Strong electromagnetic interference may affect system performance.

  • High audio volume levels inside the Kia EV6 may prevent occupants from hearing warning sounds.

  • Automatic braking performance may be limited depending on the operating status of Electronic Stability Control (ESC).

Only a warning may be provided when:

    • The ESC warning indicator is illuminated.

    • ESC is actively engaged in another vehicle control function.

  • Inspect brake fluid levels and brake pad condition regularly. Reduced brake performance can affect emergency braking capability.

  • Disable Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist when towing a trailer. While reversing, the system may interpret the trailer as an obstacle and activate warnings or braking unnecessarily.

NOTE

Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist in the Kia EV6 can typically detect pedestrians and obstacles under the following conditions:

  • A pedestrian is standing behind the vehicle within the camera and sensor detection area.

  • A large object, such as another vehicle, is positioned near the center rear area of the Kia EV6.
