Kia EV6: Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist malfunction and limitations / Limitations of Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist

The Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system may operate unexpectedly, become temporarily limited, or fail to detect surrounding vehicles properly under certain road, weather, traffic, or environmental conditions.

Because the Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system relies on radar sensors and electronic detection technology, detection performance can vary depending on surrounding obstacles, road geometry, weather, and driving behavior.

Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist on the Kia EV6 may operate abnormally or provide inaccurate warnings under the following conditions:

  • Severe weather conditions such as heavy snow, intense rain, hail, dense fog, or strong wind are present.

  • The Kia EV6 rear corner radar sensors are covered with snow, rain, mud, dirt, slush, ice, or road debris.

  • The temperature around the Kia EV6 detection sensors becomes extremely high or low because of surrounding environmental conditions.

  • The Kia EV6 detection sensors become temporarily blocked while driving close to walls, pillars, barriers, parked vehicles, or similar structures.

  • Driving on highway ramps, motorway exits, entrance ramps, or through tollgate areas.

  • The road surface or nearby ground contains unusual metallic materials, such as areas affected by subway or underground rail construction.

  • Fixed roadside structures are located near the Kia EV6, including sound barriers, guardrails, tunnels, central dividers, concrete walls, light poles, entry gates, signs, or double roadside structures.

  • Driving on narrow roads surrounded by dense trees, bushes, vegetation, or overgrown roadside areas.

  • Driving in wide open areas with very few vehicles or structures nearby, such as deserts, meadows, remote suburbs, or large open parking areas.

  • Driving the Kia EV6 on wet road surfaces, standing water, puddles, or reflective road conditions.

  • A surrounding vehicle follows extremely close behind the Kia EV6 or passes very near the vehicle.

  • The speed of another vehicle is extremely high and it passes the Kia EV6 within a very short period of time.

  • The Kia EV6 overtakes or passes another vehicle quickly.

  • The Kia EV6 changes lanes abruptly or aggressively.

  • The Kia EV6 accelerates simultaneously with a vehicle traveling in the adjacent lane.

  • A vehicle located two lanes away suddenly moves into the adjacent lane next to the Kia EV6.

  • A trailer, bicycle rack, cargo carrier, or similar accessory is installed near the Kia EV6 rear corner radar area.

  • The Kia EV6 rear bumper area near the radar sensors is covered with bumper stickers, protective film, decorative accessories, bicycle racks, or similar objects.

  • The Kia EV6 front or rear bumper near the radar sensors is damaged, misaligned, deformed, or improperly repaired.

  • The Kia EV6 ride height changes because of heavy cargo loads, uneven weight distribution, suspension modifications, or incorrect tire pressure.

  • The following objects may be detected by the Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system:

    • Motorcycles or bicycles traveling near the vehicle.

    • Flatbed trailers or low-profile towing equipment.

    • Large commercial vehicles such as buses, trucks, or transport vehicles.

    • Moving obstacles including pedestrians, animals, shopping carts, wheelchairs, or baby strollers.

    • Low-height vehicles such as sports cars or modified vehicles with reduced ride height.

The Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system is intended to support driver awareness but cannot replace careful visual checks and safe driving habits.

Pay close attention because Kia EV6 steering assistance and braking intervention may not operate properly under the following conditions:

  • The Kia EV6 experiences strong vibration while driving over rough roads, damaged pavement, concrete patches, potholes, or uneven surfaces.

  • Driving on slippery road surfaces caused by snow, ice, standing water, slush, or wet pavement.

  • The Kia EV6 tire pressure is low or one or more tires are damaged or worn excessively.

  • The Kia EV6 braking system has been modified or repaired improperly.

  • For additional information regarding the Kia EV6 front view camera and sensor limitations, refer to the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) (Sensor Fusion) section.

WARNING

  • You are driving the Kia EV6 on a curved road.

The Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system may not operate correctly while driving on curved roads.

In some situations, the Kia EV6 may fail to detect a vehicle traveling in the adjacent lane.

In other situations, the Kia EV6 may incorrectly detect a vehicle traveling in the same lane.

Always pay careful attention to surrounding traffic conditions and directly check blind spot areas while driving.

  • Driving the Kia EV6 on steep inclines or slopes

Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist limitation while driving on an incline

The Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system may not function properly while driving uphill or downhill on steep slopes.

The system may fail to detect vehicles in adjacent lanes or may incorrectly detect the road surface, surrounding terrain, or nearby structures.

Always remain attentive to surrounding traffic and road conditions while operating the Kia EV6 on inclines.

  • Driving where roads merge or divide

Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist limitation at merging roads

The Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system may not detect vehicles properly in areas where roads merge, split, or divide.

Detection accuracy may temporarily decrease because of changing lane geometry and surrounding traffic patterns.

Always directly monitor surrounding vehicles and road conditions while changing lanes or entering merging traffic areas.

  • Driving where lane heights are different

Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist limitation with uneven lane height

The Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system may not operate properly when lane heights differ significantly.

The system may not accurately detect vehicles on roads with elevation differences such as grade-separated intersections, underpass connection roads, elevated highways, or uneven lane transitions.

Always maintain full attention to surrounding traffic and road conditions while driving the Kia EV6.

WARNING

  • When towing a trailer or another vehicle with the Kia EV6, always turn OFF Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist before driving.

  • The Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system may not operate correctly in areas affected by strong electromagnetic interference.

  • After starting the Kia EV6 or initializing the front view camera and rear corner radar sensors, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist may require approximately 3 seconds before full operation becomes available.

  • Never rely solely on the Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system for safe lane changes or collision prevention.

The driver remains fully responsible for safe vehicle operation at all times.
